“Tin” for ten

We celebrated our tenth anniversary yesterday, and my dear husband created the most wonderful game for our dinner. He taped foil to the back of 50 playing cards and put five cards in each of ten envelopes, each labeled with a year. Each card had a phrase related to a memory we shared during that year of marriage.
We spent much more time reminiscing, and forgot to keep score, but the conversation and memories were a blast.
What an adventure we have had, and many more to come.

I hosted a clothing swap last night, and forgot to photograph the amazing (but needed salt) bean and tofu guacamole I made.
Yes, I very occasionally cook with a food processor, probably the easiest method for a low culinary skilled gal like me.
So instead, here’s a picture of the fruit bowl I whipped up….note the trend in low required cooking skills?
The fruit was all the more tasty thanks to its beautiful display in this tri section bowl brought back from Haiti by my Dad and sister.

Sitting atop Utah’s highest peak, Kings Peak, at about 13,500 feet.
We hiked 11.5 miles in the first day, about 3.5 to the top the next, a few miles out that afternoon and about 9 miles out on Monday. Weather was perfect and we had a great time.

On top of one of Salt Lake’s highest peaks. It took us about four hours to get there and two to get down. The peak is about 9,000 feet in elevation.

Uncle James and Cole on the Outer Banks, little Carter squirming in a chair, and the lovely Anna (+1).

I’m learning how to upload pictures from my smartphone to our blog! It might mean less content, but more pictures.

Back in the Saddle Again

After an almost two-year hiatus from mountain biking (I had announced I was retiring about two years ago), Jill, Aaron, James and I decided to give it another try on mellow trails in Fruita, CO. We drove over on Friday night and camped in Rabbit Valley. Saturday, we picked an easy loop that had options for extensions and side trails and ended up on a really fun, just challenging enough 18-mile ride. We rode over sandy jeep roads, up and down a few steep hills (walked), and around a lovely single track on a huge canyon rim overlooking parts of the Colorado River. It was a solid reintroduction to mountain biking and Jill and I were very proud of ourselves for staying on our bikes, trying new terrain, and not crying or swearing. I have a few scraps and bruises, but they are actually from walking around with my bike, not riding. Now that we’re home, I have yet to bike again, but the wide, soft, safe-feeling trails were a nice reintroduction to the sport.
